Completing my 5k challenge

If you’ve followed my blog for a while you’ll know I’ve been trying to hit 5k for a while. You can read all about that here, here, and here.

Drum-roll please…

I did this back in May (bad blogger alert) but I still wanted to write about it.

This time last year I never thought I’d be able to do it. I’d just started – and restarted a few times – the couch to 5k. It was a good way for me to start running, but I didn’t stick with completely.

Joining the gym helped a lot, that way I could slowly build up my pace and stamina. And the best thing was I could see myself getting better because I knew the speed/incline was being increased. It kept my motivation up.

The day I finally hit 5k on the treadmill my first thought was that it must be a fluke. But I hit it a few more times, then did it outside, then it was the big day!

I was slightly terrified that I’d get the biggest stitch in the world 5 minutes into the run because that would be typical me. I did get a stitch, but a bearable one at least.

It was such a fun experience as well because it’s such a chilled out run that you can enjoy rather than endure.

Although, I have to say, being a glasses wearer isย not ideal. I was having to take them off and hold them under my t-shirt before we got hit with paint so that I could actually see where I was running. Did my boyfriend help with my blind running? Nah, he jogged on ahead, mocking my short-sightedness.

BUT, it’s another thing to tick off my bucket list. And another thing I’m pretty proud of this year. I think I’ll sign up for one next year and, who knows, maybe one day a 10k will be on the horizon.

I just need to make sure I keep on running. May or may not have only done one since…

I blame the weather.
